Trust Center

Before you trust us with your history.

Your photos, voices and stories may be impossible to replace. You deserve to know what happens to them. Genora is in beta. Here is what works, what you can choose and what we still cannot promise.

Review date: October 7, 2026

How does Genora make money?

Subscriptions. We will never put ads inside your Family archive.

How it actually works

Our standard plans are Free ($0), Plus ($7.99/month or $79/year), Family ($14.99/month or $149/year), and Legacy ($29.99/month or $299/year). Free Founding Family access is a separate beta offer. We may advertise Genora on other websites; those ads do not belong inside Genora.

What you control

You decide whether to buy a paid plan. Review the price and renewal terms before paying.

What we have not verified yet

We are checking that billing and the Founding Family benefit match these promises across the website and iPhone app.

Can I download everything and leave?

Not yet. Complete Family Export is not yet available. We are actively building it.

How it actually works

Your Family should not be locked into Genora. The export being built includes a readable archive, structured data and actual media files. The current version is incomplete: it has a 200 MB memory-attachment limit and does not include every profile or Future Message file.

What you control

Keep your original photos, recordings and videos outside Genora too. A limited export is not a complete backup.

What we have not verified yet

We have not passed end-to-end testing of a complete archive. Large exports, missing-file retries, download expiry and who can request a full-Family export still need work.

What happens if Genora shuts down?

We do not have a finished shutdown and data-retrieval plan yet.

How it actually works

We are planning how to notify Families, keep exports available and handle stored media and backups if the service closes. We will not promise a notice or retrieval period until we can actually provide it.

What you control

Keep independent copies of irreplaceable files. Do not rely on Genora as their only home.

What we have not verified yet

The retrieval period, operating funds and final deletion schedule are not settled. Lifetime access does not mean the company will exist forever.

Are you training AI on my family?

We do not yet know enough about every provider’s practices to promise that none of your data could be used for training.

How it actually works

Our policy direction is to keep private Family content out of general AI training. The AI features in our code send information through Base44’s AI services. We still need to verify the companies processing it, their contracts and their account settings.

What you control

You can leave optional AI actions unused. The section below explains what those actions send and which checks remain open.

What we have not verified yet

We are verifying this and will not make a stronger claim until we can prove it. Provider retention, training use and processing locations remain unresolved.

Can I use Genora without AI?

You can write and save a memory without asking AI to help. We have not yet verified every core feature in a complete no-AI test.

How it actually works

Saving memories and uploading files use separate code paths from AI assistance. AI is used to generate archive answers, suggest memory organization and produce transcription or relationship explanations when those services are enabled. Having AI code does not mean every feature is available today.

What you control

For a written memory or prompt answer, use the ordinary save action without requesting AI help. You can skip Ask My Family and write titles and text yourself.

What we have not verified yet

We are checking every screen for unexpected AI calls and verifying the user controls. We do not yet offer a verified account-wide switch that guarantees no AI processing.

These are the AI paths we found in the current code. Availability is still being checked. We are verifying this and will not make a stronger claim until we can prove it.

Core features — no generative AI in the reviewed save paths

What it does
Writing and saving a memory or prompt answer, and uploading a media file, do not call the AI services in the code paths we reviewed.
What information is sent
The content still goes to Genora’s Base44 backend and storage so it can be saved. No AI call was found in these save paths.
Who processes it
Base44 runs the app backend and storage.
Is it retained?
Storage and backup retention periods are still being verified.
Can it be used for training?
Storage alone is not a verified provider-wide no-training promise. We are checking the provider terms.
Can you decline?
You can save manually and skip AI assistance. People, Family Tree, recipes, traditions, Through the Years and export still need a complete no-AI workflow test.

Optional AI — Ask My Family

What it does
Generates an answer from selected Family records.
What information is sent
Your question; up to 20 selected memory excerpts with titles, prompts, dates, categories and contributor names; and profile names, relationship labels and biographies, including child profiles returned by the account’s permitted queries.
Who processes it
Base44’s AI integration. The downstream model provider has not been verified.
Is it retained?
We have not verified how long the AI processors retain this information.
Can it be used for training?
We have not verified their training use or account settings.
Can you decline?
You can skip Ask My Family and browse records yourself. Generating its AI answer requires AI.

Optional AI — memory organization

What it does
Suggests a title, tags, category and themes.
What information is sent
The written memory text and, on the prompt screen, the prompt text.
Who processes it
Base44’s AI integration. The downstream model provider has not been verified.
Is it retained?
We have not verified the AI processors’ retention periods.
Can it be used for training?
We have not verified their training use or account settings.
Can you decline?
You can leave AI organization unused and write and save the memory yourself.

AI-required action — audio transcription

What it does
Turns a recording into written words. This is separate from saving or playing audio.
What information is sent
A short-lived link that lets the processor read the authorized recording.
Who processes it
Base44’s transcription integration. The downstream speech provider has not been verified.
Is it retained?
We have not verified retention of the audio or generated transcript by the processor.
Can it be used for training?
We have not verified the processor’s training use or settings.
Can you decline?
Do not request transcription; preserve the recording alone. The new server path requires an explicit transcription request. Its app integration and live behavior still need verification.

AI-required action — generated relationship explanation

What it does
Writes an explanation about two selected relatives; it is not the Family Tree’s relationship record.
What information is sent
The two relatives’ names, relationship labels and biographies.
Who processes it
Base44’s AI integration. The downstream model provider has not been verified.
Is it retained?
We have not verified the AI processors’ retention periods.
Can it be used for training?
We have not verified their training use or account settings.
Can you decline?
This service exists in the backend, but we found no current app-screen caller. We are not presenting it as a released feature or a requirement for viewing the tree.

Who can see our memories?

That depends on the sharing setting. Being related to someone should not give them access to a Private memory.

How it actually works

The intended rules are: Private for its creator, Family for authorized Family members, and steward sharing for designated roles. Our servers check permissions before issuing private-media download links. Base44 processes stored data to run Genora; staff access also needs to be accounted for.

What you control

Choose carefully when sharing. Report a memory that appears to the wrong person. Do not assume a Family invitation makes every record visible.

What we have not verified yet

Automated permission tests have passed, but the live two-account test is still unfinished. We are also checking staff privileges, old media links and sharing between Families.

Is Genora end-to-end encrypted?

No. We do not offer Genora as an end-to-end encrypted service.

How it actually works

The website uses HTTPS to protect information in transit. Genora’s server-side features can process archive content, so we cannot honestly say that only you can decrypt everything.

What you control

Decide what you are comfortable storing here. Keep highly sensitive documents out of Genora while those protections remain unfinished.

What we have not verified yet

We have not independently verified the full encryption architecture. We are still confirming database, media and backup encryption and who controls the keys.

Does deleting my account delete everything?

No. Closing a login is not the same as erasing an entire Family archive.

How it actually works

Your account, Person profile, memories and shared Family records are separate. Removing one account must not silently destroy someone else’s contributions. Deletion requests need to account for media, shared records and backups.

What you control

You can start an account-deletion request and say what you want removed. Keep a copy of anything you need before requesting deletion.

What we have not verified yet

We have not verified complete erasure across active storage, backups and providers. We cannot yet give you a proven backup-deletion deadline.

Account deletion information

Who owns the photos and recordings?

You keep ownership of the content you own and submit. Genora does not take ownership of it.

How it actually works

Our Terms give Genora permission to store, process, display, back up and deliver content so the service can work. Uploading someone else’s photograph does not make you its copyright owner.

What you control

Choose what you upload and who you share it with. Only submit material you have the right to preserve or share.

What we have not verified yet

The final rules for ending that permission—especially for backups and shared contributions—still need legal review.

What if relatives disagree about a memory or photo?

You can report a concern. Our dedicated dispute and removal process is not finished yet.

How it actually works

We should preserve who contributed a story and allow different recollections. A complaint should be reviewed, rather than automatically deleting another person’s memory or deciding whose version is true.

What you control

Signed-in members can report concerns through Settings. Describe the issue without including passwords or unnecessary sensitive details.

What we have not verified yet

We still need clear review, restriction, appeal and removal procedures, including requests involving children and people without Genora accounts.

What happens when the owner dies or loses access?

You can name a successor, but we cannot yet complete a verified successor takeover.

How it actually works

A saved designation records your choice. It does not give that person your password, ownership or access to restricted memories. Recovering a lost login is a separate process.

What you control

Choose or update your successor in Settings. Keep a separate plan for your Family’s important originals; the designation alone is not completed protection.

What we have not verified yet

We are building the identity checks, dispute handling and approval process for transfers. We will not enable automatic takeover just because someone says the owner has died.

Why use Genora instead of a photo folder?

To keep the people and stories connected to the files.

How it actually works

A photograph can sit alongside the person it shows, a memory about that day, a relationship or a recording of someone telling the story. Genora’s purpose is to help your Family understand what those records mean.

What you control

Choose which people, stories and recordings you preserve. You do not have to tell every story or invite every relative.

What we have not verified yet

Genora is still in beta. Some sharing and archive features remain unfinished; our demonstrations should say when they show a preview.

What am I agreeing to as a Founding Family?

A 60-day beta study, with about three to four uses a week—not public sharing of your Family’s life.

How it actually works

We ask you to try features, tell us what breaks or feels confusing, and invite relatives when comfortable. Founding Families have an approved free lifetime-access benefit, separate from the 60-day study. That benefit is intended to continue with Family members who take over the archive.

What you control

Choose what you preserve and whom you invite. Ask us about withdrawal before joining if that affects your decision.

What we have not verified yet

The exact included tier, withdrawal effects and successor-transfer terms are not finalized. Lifetime access does not promise that Genora will operate forever. Our complete export and shutdown plans are still being built.

Will AI invent things about my family?

It can get things wrong. An AI answer is not proof of what happened.

How it actually works

Ask My Family is instructed to answer from selected archive records. Its code checks returned source names against the records supplied and withholds answers with no matching source. That check does not prove every sentence is correct. Our rule is that AI must not silently turn guesses into Family facts.

What you control

Check the original memory or recording before relying on an AI answer. Report mistakes and keep the original source; relatives may remember the same event differently.

What we have not verified yet

We are still testing inaccurate summaries, conflicting memories and correction flows. We have not verified those safeguards across every AI feature.

Questions or concerns

Signed-in members can report a concern through Settings. Do not include passwords or verification codes in a report. Dedicated dispute handling and support for people without accounts are still being developed.
